What Is a Random Name Generator?
A random name generator does one of two jobs: it draws a random name from a list you provide, or it creates new random names you’ve never seen before. This page does both.
Teachers, event hosts and team leads usually want the first – a fair name draw from a class list or entry list. Writers, gamers and developers often want the second – fresh names for characters, usernames, test data or role-play. Generate a batch above, put it on the wheel, and spin to pick your favourite.

How to Draw a Random Name From a List
- Paste your list into the Entries box, one name per line – or click Upload CSV/TXT.
- Remove duplicates so every person has one fair chance.
- Choose how many names to draw in Settings → Winners per spin (1, 2, 3, 5 or 10).
- Spin. The drawn names appear with a Draw ID you can save as a record.
- Keep drawing without repeats by turning on elimination mode.
Ways to Use a Random Name Generator
Name draws & raffles
Pick raffle winners, door prizes or lucky-draw names from your entry list.
Secret Santa
Draw names one by one with elimination on so nobody is picked twice.
Story characters
Generate 20 random names and spin to name your hero, villain or side character.
Game & role-play names
Instant names for NPCs, D&D characters, sims or online avatars.
Test data
Developers and teachers can generate sample names for forms, spreadsheets or exercises.
Classroom turns
Draw the next student to answer, read or present.
Is the Name Draw Fair?
Yes. Both the generator and the wheel use your browser’s cryptographic random number generator. Every name on the list has an equal chance unless you deliberately add a weight (for example Sara | 2 for someone with two raffle tickets). The Odds tab shows each person’s exact chance before you spin.
Generated names are built from common first and last names and are for fun or sample use – they don’t refer to real people.
