What Is a Random Team Generator?
A random team generator takes a list of people and splits it into teams at random. It removes bias, saves time, and stops the awkward “who picks who” moment at the start of every game or group project.
Choose the number of teams you need, or how many people should be in each team, and the generator shuffles everyone with a fair Fisher–Yates shuffle before dealing them out evenly – team sizes never differ by more than one person.
How to Make Random Teams
- Add everyone’s name to the Entries box (one per line) or upload a CSV class list.
- Pick a mode: “Number of teams” (e.g. 4 teams) or “People per team” (e.g. groups of 3).
- Press Generate teams. Each team gets a colour and an optional random captain.

- Remove absent people before generating so team sizes stay even.
- Generate once and stick with it – re-rolling until you like the result defeats the purpose.
- For skill balance, run the generator separately for experienced and new players, then merge one team from each list.
